Delroy Marsh is the singer they put on at the blues dance when the lights go low. Camberwell born and raised — the Green, the terraces off Coldharbour Lane where the front room got cleared, the bass bin carried in and one slow record lasted for days — he came up singing in a kitchen, not a church, and it shows: he sings like he's telling you a secret across the table. Never raises his voice. Never needs to.
The band is small and knows its job. Owen keeps the one-drop deep and unhurried, Trevor's guitar chops and Rhodes never show off, and Pauline's harmony sits under the lead like a cushion. Careful With My Heart is the one that clears the floor for the couples; Blues Dance is the party itself; One More Dance is the last slow one before they turn the lights up.
